Shifting Priorities After CERN announced plans to build the world’s largest particle collider yet, physicist Sabine Hossenfelder has a simple message: we’d be better off without it. Hossenfelder, a research fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies, wrote a Scientific American op-ed in which she argues that the tens of billions of dollars the collider would cost is far too high a price tag , given there’s no guarantee that it would lead to any groundbreaking discoveries.
