SNN Editor Comment: In Chinese culture “tofu” is not only something to eat, but it also has a somewhat derogatory meaning. Tofu is a soft squishy food. And because it’s not as expensive as meat, it is a cheap way to fill one’s belly. It’s soft, and it’s cheap.
So “tofu construction” in this video refers to the soft and not-so-solid end results of construction projects that just don’t hold up. This is due to lack of standards in China for sturdy construction, as well as lack of enforcement in the actual construction itself. By cutting corners at every chance, Chinese construction companies save money and bribe inspection officials to look away at their shoddy work. In the end, we see what’s shown in the video, where sometimes it costs people their lives.
As veteran businessmen and long-term expatriate residents of China, the creator of this video and his buddy have made many videos about life in China, with many of them being justifiably critical of China and its many shortcomings, interluded with the occasional humorous or happy story about China.

Corruption is rampant world wide. The Chinese are not exclusive to it , but they do bring the practice of it to a remarkable level in so many ways.
It boils down to the simple concept of honesty, truhfullness and morality in general. In general the Chinese cannot be trusted as much as we would hope for. They steel our technology. They pay the Biden crime syndicate for favors. Now they are walking over our borders and coming here to America. Why come here and leave the “perfect peoples republic of China” a place where The ideal government and society is “blessed with the perfect social and political philosophy is the standard by which they exist. Just as we are headed down a rapid path of corruption, social and moral decay, they will also see themselves crumble and cave, just like the faulty bridge, they so shodily construct, cut corners, lie cheat and steel. Just so some worthless son of a bitch can put a few more coins in his selfish pocket.
Kevin, couldn’t agree with you more. But I think this year we will be seeing some rapid change not only with the collapse of the global financial system, but also people’s mindset about how to live life with meaning well beyond a fast buck. Rock on, man!
